A Book Can Change a Child’s Life

But not every child in Canada has easy access to books. Some school library shelves are nearly empty, bookshelves almost bare.

That’s why the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation provides books to elementary schools in high-needs communities. So more children can be inspired to start their great story.

Because when you give a child a book, you give them a chance.

The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation

Since 2004, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation has been dedicated to putting books in the hands of children in high-needs communities across Canada. We do this with the help of Indigo and its customers through two key granting programs:

Adopt a School – every school year, Indigo, Chapters, and Coles stores across Canada “adopt” a local high-needs elementary school and fundraise on their behalf.

Literacy Fund Grant – ILOR funds the purchase of books and educational resources that promote and support literacy initiatives at Canadian high-needs elementary schools across the country.

Read Between the Lines

Watch the Read Between the Lines documentary, a film produced by the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation which captures the importance of early literacy and the challenges we face in Canada by underfunding school libraries.

Community Response Fund

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation committed $1 million in new funding to high-needs communities across Canada
